When the Spaniards encountered Indians in Florida in 1528 how did they communicate with each other?

In 1528, the Spaniards landed in Florida. When they encountered the Indians, The were unable to speak to them because they didn’t speak their language and didn’t have a translator. The Indians didn’t speak Spanish for the same reason. Sign language may not have been an option. How then did they communicate? Serious responses please.
