How can I blow out a candle without smoking the room too much?

I use scented candles for aroma therapy, and blowing them out causes a lot of smoke which stinks out the room more than the perfume managed to refresh it. Is there any way to stop them from smoking? I’ve tried blowing them out and then quickly grabbing the thread between my fingers a couple of times, but it burned my skin. Is there any special tool that you can use to put out candles without creating smoke?
